SWALEDALE MUSEUM EVENTS 2015

EXHIBITION

‘TEXT MESSAGE - The Graphic Art of Swaledale and Arkengarthdale’

23 May-9 August 2015

This exhibition originates from the acquisition of some posters from the 1940s and 1950s, rescued from a local house which was being refurbished in 2006. In bold and often colourful type, the places, people and events advertised offer a wealth of information. Since 2006 we have been actively collecting these alluring ephemera to add to our collection. These posters which were only ever intended to last a few months capture the vibrancy and variety of local culture - from the Gunnerside Shortest Day Festival, annual pantomines and concerts, to house sales and election fever. We encourage anyone with a local poster to bring it in so we can photograph and record it, building up a wonderful new historical record for the Dale.

Copies of many of the posters in the Museum Collection can be purchased - see SHOP section of this website.
